I plundered this lovely book tag at Books and Dachshunds! Be sure and check out their site!
Do you judge a book by its cover?
I’ll be honest. I used to, and missed out on reading one of my absolute favourite series. Lesson learned!
Focusing on just the cover, what attracts you to pick it up?
Anything that looks sci-fi/fantasy. Things with lovely art. Things that look myth related. Things that have an oriental flare. Things with a dystopia feel. Minimalist type covers. All these things will lure me in to read the synopsis.
Do you read the synopsis first, or do you prefer to go in knowing nothing about the book?
I prefer to read the synopsis, even for familiar comfort authors. I like the teasing of things to come. It sweetens the anticipation of reading the book. And if I can’t read it right away, seeing the cover usually triggers memory of the synopsis and I’m more likely to pick it up then.
Do you have any auto-buy authors?
Oh yes! RA Salvatore, Laurie R King, Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, Kat Ross, Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child, W Michael & Kathleen O’Neal Gear, Shami Stovall. Most of these authors’ books are comfort reads to me.
Are you more likely to buy a book if it has specific elements/themes?
Sherlock Holmes pastiches, mythology elements, anthropology or archaeology, dragons, prehistoric creatures, paleontology, forensics, cats😸
Do you ever read a book that has generally negative reviews just to form your own opinion on it?
All the time! Books that get negative press, I usually like 🤷 And things that get wildly popular I oft tend to dislike. (I’m looking at you Twilight)
Do you ever buy a book just because another booktuber/blogger has talked about it a lot?
Sometimes, if it has elements that I would enjoy.
Is there anyone who’s book recommendations you always trust?
I’m quite sure there are. I just cannot recall them at the moment. Thanks, ME…
