No one should ever go into the woods alone. Brielle has grown up listening to tales of a beast that attacks humans, leaving behind only a scattering of bones and limbs. It’s probably the elders’ way of keeping little children in line, but it doesn’t explain her grisly premonitions of blood, claws, and severed heads. But when Brielle finds a mangled body in the woods, she begins to wonder if the grim stories may actually be true. Soon, Lord Kenrick, Knight of the Crowhurst Order, arrives asking questions about the legendary monster. Brielle’s attraction to him is immediate and undeniable. She volunteers to help him search for clues to the creature’s existence, despite her suspicions about his timing. As her 17th birthday approaches, Brielle’s nightmares worsen and more villagers go missing. If Brielle doesn’t figure out the connection between Kenrick, the beast, and her visions, more people will die. As Brielle falls deeper in love with Kenrick and deeper into the snares of the abominable beast, she’ll become part of a legend so great, no one will ever question its validity again.

What inspirations are behind the series?
Thanks so much for having me! So, I guess Legend of Me and it’s follow up Tragedy of Me had a lot of inspirations. Firstly, I LOVE dark fairytales. Especially “twisty” ones that may not follow the norm. I came up with an idea of this village and beast attacks that were happening in and around it, then thought, what could I do to kind of turn this idea on its’ head, thus Legend of Me was born.
Taking it a step further, for the 2nd book, I tried to consider what would happen if everything didn’t have a happy ending? Throw in a few new characters and some new settings along with a little new mythology/lore and we have Tragedy of Me.
But aside from the dark fairytales, some of the ideas behind this series came from a place I go camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan called Fayette. The woods up there have some really dark forests along with some very fairytalesque types of trees and outcroppings that just kind of come out of the stone. There are even natural stairs made of granite/limestone that just kind of appear out of nowhere. It has a very creepy vibe to it, especially when the mist comes in off of Lake Michigan.
At night it gets so dark and eerie conjuring all kinds of nightmarish ideas. But it was after a camping trip there that this idea started to form in my head.
