Sylvia Tilly is part of the crew of the USS Discovery. We first meet her as a cadet, though she gains the rank of Ensign by the end of season 1. Tilly is assigned to the engineering team, but has her sights set on becoming a captain one day. She’s a phenomenal theoretical engineer, hence her place on the elite Discovery with its unique propulsion system.  

Though often socially awkward, and prone to chatter when nervous, Tilly begins to grow into her own after becoming friends with Burnham. They help each other in many ways. Burnham helps Tilly gain confidence, while learning how to be more ‘human’ from her. Born human, Burnham was raised by Vulcans. When she’s into her work, or otherwise feeling confident, Tilly has a bright bubbly personality, and infectious enthusiasm.

Also, she’s perfect as Merida for a live-action Brave.
