…Summer Memory

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books that started on Wednesday January 4th 2017. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s to share something positive.

Each week is a new My Favorite.. topic. Feel free to jump in! The only thing you’ll have to do is sign up on the weekly post, link back to that post and visit others.

One summer, many eons ago, while visiting my family in Alabama, I learned the joys of archaeology, quite by accident. My cousins and I were playing in an old oak tree and we noticed a brick corner poking up from the dirt. Curious, we dug around it, trying to free it from its soil prison. Imagine our surprise at finding a brick to either side of that first one! Well, I organised my cousins, and asked permission to dig up the yard. We acquired tools- spades, buckets, brushes, and began our work. Slowly the foundations of a house generations old emerged. So old it had been forgotten. So old that a massive oak grew from the center. Thus was my first archaeological investigation, one that sparked a lifelong love.

*not original investigation 🤣

One summer, every evening a summer thunderstorm would breeze through. As I grew older, thunderstorms lessened, as the 30yr weather cycle moved along its path. I loved  thunderstorms. Still do, though I don’t get them much where I currently live.
