Helix
4*
Helix, by Mary Ting, is the second book in the ISAN series. Ava trades herself for Ozzie, putting her back in ISAN’s clutches. She’s beginning to recall her past, making her more determined to bring down the organisation. How far will ISAN go to contain it’s secrets?
This book jumps right in where the first book ended, and keeps up the roller coaster pace. I did find that a little jarring. It had been some time since I’d read the last book and I was a little lost at first. I oriented pretty quick though. Warning- this book ends in a cliffhanger too! Thankfully, I could read the third one right away!
This story is told from both Ava’s point of view and Rhett’s, which was neat. I loved the dynamics between all of the characters. The friendship, loyalty, and camaraderie. I think that was the best part, for me at least.
Genes
4*
Genes is the third book of Mary Ting’s ISAN series. Things are really ramping up for Ava, Rhett, and the crew. War is looming, loyalties are tested, and things are getting dicey.
This story was as action packed as the last! It felt much darker than its predecessors. Which is a good thing. We are really getting into the meat of the story, and it is dystopia after all. The camaraderie and friendship are still strong for the most part. There is that pesky matter of a wolf in the fold, unfortunately.
The characters are still my favourite part. There’s a bit more romance in it than I’d like, but romance really isn’t my cuppa in stories, nor in real life. I will say that it did add sparks of light to a dark take. And speaking of… don’t get too attached to characters. Cause dang.
Recommended if you enjoy dystopian fiction!
