– Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)
Eeek!! I can’t even imagine keeping them on! I take the dust jackets off so they stay pretty. I’ve seen too many people keep them on and end up with ripped, scruffy covers. If something happens to the book cover itself, well, the dust jacket will cover it up when I put it back on.
I know!! Between me and the herd a dust cover would be destroyed in seconds. lol Those come off and go up on the shelves until I’m done reading 🙂
That is understandable why you take of the dust jacket off, thank you so much for stopping by my blog hop from last week.
I keep the dust jacket on. I will also use the flap as a bookmark.
They can make good bookmarks
I like it! I’ve never thought of it from the angle that if I keep the dust jacket pristine, it can hide my accidental book damaging sins… I take them off because they annoy me. lol. Double bonus now! 🙂
I know, right!
I love this! Definitely made me laugh 🙂 Great answer!
Thanks 😃
LOVE your animation!!
I like to keep mine in good condition too and always take them off.
Haha. Thanks 🙂
I’ve had a few that ended up eaten or smashed. I like your thoughts that if the book get’s damaged at least the cover will hide it. I never even thought of that. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week and happy reading.
Haha I leave them on. I have never had a problem with them and don’t want them to be misplaced.
Ha ha, so many people are horrified by the suggestion of keeping them on. It’s really never bothered me, even though sometimes the bottom of the dust jacket gets a little worn. I’ve never severely damaged them.
Ive had people and pets damage them before hardcopies find their new shelf home. People, more than pets, tbh.
I always take the cover off for the same reasons you said.
Just seems so much safer to take them off!
