The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. These are weekly prompts to give bloggers a chance to connect with one another. Weeks run Friday- Thursday.

Have you ever found yourself acting like a favorite character in a novel? If so, which one? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)

Yes! I’m a chameleon of sorts. I most tend to pick up language and speaking patterns, usually of the main character in a story. This only lasts until shortly after I finish with a book. It doesn’t happen with all fiction I read, but with most though. I kinda always felt there was something wrong with me, that this happened…

  1. Oh, that is SO AWESOME!! I must confess to occasionally trying to imitate a British accent, but it doesn’t really come naturally to me. So, when I’m trying to channel Hermione Granger, it’s not very easy…..lol. In all other aspects, though (the Gryffindor robe, the illuminated HG wand) I can do an okay Hermione imitation. Lol.

I have never “found myself” just being a certain character one day, just out of the blue, tbh. Nor has this happened to me while reading a book. The closes I’ve come to that is feeling a character’s emotions VERY strongly.

Thanks for the great answer! <3 πŸ™‚ Thanks as well for commenting on my own BBH post!! And sorry for the late comment back….. πŸ™

P.S. Your chameleon pick is SO cute, and very much spot on, too!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Cool, I think you’re the only one so far on the Hop that has answered in the affirmative!
I don’t do the chameleon thing with books but set me off speaking to other Scottish people and my accent ramps up a million degrees (completely unintentionally). I think it’s because it’s mellowed out so much the 9 years I’ve been living down south, lol.

    1. Heh. I have to be the weird one out πŸ˜†

Heehee, I do that, too! I’ve lived in California for nearly a decade. I moved from the South, and put me near Southerners of any regional flavour and my accent gets soooo much more pronounced. They don’t have to be from NC. Any Southern state works. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…. And yet, to my dulled ears, they sound like they have such an accent.

  3. That’s interesting that you pick up those traits while you’re reading. I don’t think I’ve ever done that, but I can say that I’ve never paid close enough attention.
