Vegara’s Michelle Obama explores the life of one of the most gracious of First Ladies. As a child and young adult, Michelle excelled in school and went on to go to law school. It was there that she met Barack Obama. Michelle’s story is one of a person still living, and always such an inspiration! She’s worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around her, especially advocating for girls and women.

The entire Little People, Big Dreams series is an awesome introduction to biographical reading for young audiences. Not only that, but they focus on the most inspirational of people from science, entertainment, sports, politics and more. It’s also a very diverse series.

The end of the book contains a more detailed look at  life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

 

Michael Jordan by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of this charismatic basketball player. As a child, Jordan was rejected from his school’s basketball team. Determined, Jordan practised hard all summer and succeeded in the next try-out. He went on to become one of the best basketball players on record, even going to the Olympics. He has been instrumental in encouraging kids to shoot for their dreams.

At the end is a section with more detailed information on  life, suitable for older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great, and full of delightful art to engage younger audiences!

 

Marilyn Monroe by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of a truly iconic figure in film history. Born Norma Jean, young Marilyn lived in foster homes and orphanages. Despite not being allowed to watch many movies, she dreamt of becoming an actress. One day a photographer saw her and offered her a modelling contract, which led to movie parts. Sadly, Marilyn died at a young age.

I appreciate that the author handled certain parts of life with gentleness and compassion. That’s been the case with many of the people who’ve been covered in this series.

The end of the book contains a more detailed look at life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

Kamala Harris by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara looks at the life of the very first US Vice President. Growing up in an activist household, Kamala dreamed early on of becoming a lawyer so she could help those who most needed it. She would go on to enter politics, and serve as one of California’s senators. From there, Harris was nominated as Biden’s running mate in the 2020 Presidential election and became the first female Vice President (and about time, too…), as well as being the first person of colour to hold the role (also about time…) She is a truly inspirational person and I’m proud she came from my state.

Through loss, two World Wars, and their aftermath, Tolkien would continue to weave stories, and create languages. His books have had movie adaptations, and tpThe Silmarillion is the basis for the Amazon Originals Rings of Power series.

Iris Apfel by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of this fashion icon. She fell in love with fabrics and fashion as a young girl playing with fabric scraps at her grandmother’s house. An exuberant and extroverted person, Apfel favoured bold clothes and jewelry. Her life is definitely a lesson on embracing your own style, and following your passions.

Vegara’s Harry Houdini explores the life of this most famous of magicians. Born Erik Weisz in Hungary, his family moved to the US when he was just four years old. Forced at age 9 to work to help his family, Houdini was a trapeze artist and developed a love for entertainment. As an adult, he worked as a locksmith, giving him valuable skills in shaping a world-renowned escape artist.
