Fresh out of high school, he took a chance and recorded his first song. That set the ball rolling, and Elvis would go on to popularise a style of music called rock-and-roll, earning him the title ‘King of Rock-and-roll’. As an adult, though, he submitted art to publications and started making a name for himself. Warhol liked to focus on seemingly ordinary objects, showing that anything can tell a story. Amanda Gorman by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of this amazing contemporary poet. As a young girl, Gorman loved to read, anything at all. I can grok! I was (and am) the same. Always gotta have a book. My fam jokes it’s like my adult security blanket. Not gonna lie, it is for sure. I’m never bored though, if I get stuck waiting somewhere. (And with Kindle, I can carry an entire library)! A love of reading led to a love of writing, especially poetry. Gorman is our first Youth Poet Laureate and even got to read a poem at the inauguration of US President Biden!
