This song inspired the following poem, a poem read at my grandfather’s funeral.

Memories

A brief, flittering heartbeat of time.

One, two, thump, thump..

Thudding resonance that sustains the mind, day by day.

Here but an instant and gone the next.

 

Thundering melody of a deep brass bell

whose peals fade as the days pass.

Losing sheen, gaining tarnish-

nostalgia sets in.

The past always seems better than the present, ne?

 

In the blink of an eye all is gone.

The vibrant presence behind the memories-

the dimming heartbeat, the fading peals,

lost in the swirl of time.

Never forget those who have been your life-blood, your joyful music

for it is through you that they live on.
